How to Fix a Leaky Vape and Stop Wasting Your E-Liquid

Condividi l'articolo

A leaky vape is one of the most annoying problems that you can deal with as a vaper because vapes always seem to leak at the most inopportune times. One moment, everything seems fine – and the next, you look down and see that your vape has left a big stain on your favorite pants or left a puddle of e-liquid in your car’s cupholder.

A leaky vape isn’t just bothersome; it’s also wasteful. Vape juice isn’t cheap. That’s especially the case if you enjoy using disposable vapes, because you’re not just buying more e-liquid when your device is empty – you’re buying an entirely new vape.

It’s worthwhile to spend a little extra money on a high-quality device because the best vapes typically don’t have issues with leaking. If you don’t have the funds to buy a new vape right now, though, the good news is that you can probably get the device you have to stop leaking. It’ll only require you to do a little troubleshooting to track down the source of the problem. It’s possible that you’ll need to change your vaping technique a bit as well. Let’s dig in and see what’s going on.

Make Sure You’re Inhaling Correctly

This tip applies to all types of vapes because any vape can leak if your inhaling technique is incorrect. If you’ve recently switched from smoking to vaping, you’re probably used to taking short, sharp puffs because you know that you can get more smoke out of a cigarette when you inhale more firmly. That works with cigarettes because you’re supplying more oxygen to make the combustion occur faster. It also works because cigarette papers have burn rings that control how quickly they burn down.

Vapes, however, don’t work like cigarettes because what you’re inhaling is essentially boiling liquid. You can’t make the e-liquid vaporize more quickly by puffing more firmly. In fact, if you use too much air pressure when hitting your vape, you’ll suck e-liquid out of the pod or tank and into the airflow system. The end result will be – you guessed it – a leaky vape.

So, how do you get bigger clouds out of your vape? Instead of puffing harder, try taking longer, slower puffs. You only need to inhale as firmly as is necessary to make the light turn on. Puff as deeply as you like, and you’ll enjoy huge, satisfying clouds.

Fix a Leaky Disposable Vape

If you have a disposable vape that’s leaking, the most likely reason is that you’re puffing too hard when you hit your vape as we described above. If you’re sure that you’re puffing gently, try these tips to fix your device.

  • When you aren’t using your vape, turn it off if possible to prevent it from activating accidentally in your pocket. If the vape is firing inadvertently, the vapor could condense in the device’s mouthpiece and eventually leak out. Some disposable vapes have switches that allow them to turn on and off.
  • Try to avoid storing your vape on its side. Many disposable vapes store their e-liquid in small plastic chambers with silicone lids. The lid has an opening for the device’s airflow channel. If you store your device on its side for too long, e-liquid could seep into the airflow channel. You’ll get a nasty mouthful of vape juice when you use your device again.

Fix a Leaky Pod Vape

As with every other type of vape, the tip above about not inhaling too firmly when you use your device definitely applies to pod vapes. A pod vape usually has a tight airflow channel that’s easily overwhelmed if you use too much air pressure when inhaling. If you’re sure that isn’t the problem, here’s what you should check next.

  • If your pod vape has a replaceable coil, make sure that the coil is installed properly. In many cases, the base of the coil will have a flat edge. When you install the coil in the pod, the flat edge needs to align with a flat side in the pod’s opening. If the coil isn’t oriented properly, it won’t insert fully, and the pod will leak from the bottom.
  • If you’re certain that the coil is installed properly – or your pod system doesn’t have a replaceable coil – you need to make sure that you’re not overfilling your pod. If you add too much e-liquid, the pod will overflow when you replace the stopper. Always leave at least a little room at the top of the pod when you add vape juice. It’s also important to confirm that the stopper is pushed all the way in.

Fix a Leaky Vape Mod

A vape mod stores its e-liquid in a tank that connects to screw-like threading. If your mod is leaking, it’s really the tank that you’re troubleshooting and not the device itself. When a vape tank leaks, it’s usually because of a worn-out component or because the tank is assembled incorrectly. Here’s what you should do.

  • Remove the tank from the mod and unscrew the bottom metal cap. The tank’s coil will either be screwed into the bottom cap or pushed into the tank’s center chimney. Make sure that the coil is screwed or pushed all the way in. As we described in the previous section above, a coil that pushes in often has a flat side on its base that needs to be oriented correctly, or you won’t be able to push it all the way in. If the coil was loose or installed incorrectly, correcting the problem should fix the leak.
  • If the coil was installed correctly, disassemble the tank completely and check all of the silicone gaskets. If you find any gaskets that are warped or torn, replace them. Your vape kit most likely came with a bag of replacement gaskets that you can use. When you reassemble the tank, it shouldn’t leak anymore.
  • If you were unable to find a problem when you disassembled the tank, it’s likely that the tank was leaking because the components were cross-threaded. Reassemble the tank slowly, making sure that the threads are properly aligned. If you feel any resistance when putting the tank back together, don’t force it; back the threads up and keep trying until they turn smoothly. When the tank is reassembled, the leak should be fixed.
