Addmotor Introduces Upgraded Citytan M-315 Folding Electric Tricycle

EL MONTE, CA — July 17, 2026 — Electric tricycle manufacturer Addmotor today announces the technical specifications and availability of its upgraded Citytan M-315 folding electric tricycle. Designed as a micro-mobility alternative for adult and senior riders, the vehicle integrates specific mechanical, structural, and electrical updates intended to address lateral handling stability, thermal management, and cargo capabilities in everyday environments.
Unlike two-wheeled electric bicycles, three-wheeled platforms are subject to different lateral forces during cornering due to their wider rear track. To address these physics, the company configured the vehicle with a split-axle rear-drive assembly and a mechanical differential. This configuration permits the inner and outer rear wheels to rotate at different speeds during a turn, which maintains tire-to-ground traction and stabilizes the vehicle’s center of gravity.
“The structural and electrical design of the Citytan M-315 is based on three-wheel vehicle physics,” said Kin Chen, Head of Product Development at Addmotor. “The engineering team utilized a mechanical rear differential to manage turning friction, and applied a thermal-conductive gel potting compound to the lithium-ion cells to assist with heat dissipation and physical stabilization within the battery enclosure.”
Mechanical Powertrain and Speed Differential Logic
The upgraded Citytan M-315 is powered by a rear-drive hub motor rated at 750W of continuous power, capable of producing a peak output of 1,400W and delivering up to 90 Nm of torque. System acceleration is regulated by a cadence sensor at the bottom bracket, which transmits pedal-rotation data to the central controller to ensure progressive, damped power delivery without sudden surges.
During cornering, the integrated mechanical differential split-axle design continuously distributes torque. By adjusting the rotation of each wheel independently to match the turn radius, the system prevents tire scrubbing and mechanical strain on the drivetrain, stabilizing the trike on varied surfaces.
XuanWu Battery Thermal Engineering and Potting
The tricycle’s electrical system is supported by a UL-2271 certified 48V 13.5Ah XuanWu lithium-ion battery pack (648 Wh), providing an estimated range of up to 50 miles per charge on its lowest pedal-assist setting (PAS 1). The battery is configured with two proactive safety and thermal protection barriers:
- Flame-Retardant Alloy Casing: The cells are housed inside a rigid, impact-resistant aluminum alloy enclosure rated to UL94 V-0 standards, ensuring vertical flame self-extinguishment within 10 seconds.
- Thermal Gel Potting Process: The individual lithium-ion cells are fully encapsulated in a specialized thermal conductive gel. This compound functions as a structural heat sink, absorbing and conducting thermal energy away from individual cells to mitigate the risk of thermal runaway. Additionally, the gel potting seals internal wiring against moisture ingress and dampens road vibrations.
Structural Frame
- Frame Metallurgy: The frame is constructed from 6061 and 7020 aluminum alloys.
- Frame Geometry: Features a low-step-through design with a 14.1-inch standover height.
- Folding Mechanism: Utilizes a dual-stage safety latch at the central hinge point.
Braking and Electrical Systems
- Brake Configuration: Three mechanical disc brakes (one front rotor, two rear rotors).
- Parking Brake: Brake levers with mechanical push-pin locking pins.
- Lighting: 48V LED head- and taillights with a lever-activated brake light sensor.
Mechanical and Frame Specifications
- Front Suspension: Suspension fork with 80mm travel.
- Motor: 750W continuous (1,400W peak) rear-drive hub motor, 90 Nm torque.
- Battery: 48V 13.5Ah (648 Wh) XuanWu lithium-ion battery, thermal gel potting, UL94 V-0 alloy casing.
- Frame Material & Standover: Heat-treated 6061 and 7020 aluminum alloys, 14.1-inch standover height.
- Dimensions: 69.3-inch unfolded length; 41.3″ L × 43.3″ W × 45.3″ H folded footprint.
- Weight Capacities: 230 lbs rider + 80 lbs cargo.
